A couple of weeks ago, we went to visit my sister and her husband out on their weekend farm in Groveton, Texas. And while we were on the 4-wheelers bouncing across the acreage, I noticed lots of trees on adjoining properties with purple paint smeared on their bark.
Being the curious sort that I am, I asked my sister why people painted their trees purple. Here’s what she said… the pilgrimage law in Texas states that any landowner that doesn’t have a fence or “Keep Out” posters around the premises, only have to paint purple splotches on the trees to indicate the property is “Trespasser Proof.”
True law! Look it up!
So, if you’re ever traveling around the countryside and see some trees painted purple… beware! Don’t go slushing across that property! You might just find your backside full of buck shots!!!
By the way – that would also be legal. I’m sure you’ve heard the ole’ saying, “Shoot first, ask questions later!” Ouch, huh?
So, be careful where you tread when you’re out and about in Texas.
Signing off… this is Carm, one proud and Humble Texan!
